Arise

Since its inception, ARISE has sought out ways to come alongside the village of Tilling, Uganda, demonstrating the love of Christ in tangible ways.

Sowing Seeds of Hope: The Heart of Arise

Throughout 2025, the ministry organized and launched the first year of the Young Farmers Project. Eighteen youth received either a female goat, pig, or poultry pair. Early in 2026, these animals will begin to reproduce. With ongoing training and support over the next two years, the youth will have the opportunity to increase their livestock numbers and have the capacity to build towards a better future.

God Working through Arise: Goats

When working on a project in the village, Arise works hard to let people know that what they're receiving is from God. During the goat distribution it was gratifying to hear this message coming through from the local government leader: how this blessing to the youth (the goat) was from God through Arise. He encouraged them to love God, be close to Him, and pray to Him.

Positive Community Relationship: Pigs

The Arise Learning Centre is situated along the path leading to the nearby water well. On the days following the distribution of the pigs, community members, passing by on their way to and from the well, commented to Stanley how thankful they were for what Arise was doing for the children. "You really wish these children a future, you wish them well." They, along with the youth, were surprised and very pleased that Arise had given mature pigs that were ready to reproduce, rather than young piglets.

Brighter Future for youth: Goats & Gardens

There was great excitement when the long-awaited day came to distribute the female goats to seven young people. The youth, their parents, and the local government leader had gathered at the Arise Learning Centre. When invited to give a comment, one of the parents shared how the goat project was like a seed, leading to many goats. He saw not just a goat, but a bright future for the youth. The impact that this will have on the youth is yet to be determined. But hope has been firmly planted!

Endurance & Patience

Plans, Delays & Additional Costs

The plan was for all the livestock to be distributed by July. It didn't start until late September and was finally completed in mid-December. I kept thinking: The funds were raised in April, months ago, and we're taking forever to follow through. Delays, all kinds of them, kept showing up: burials that brought everything to a halt, skyrocketing prices for pigs, and an unexpected bidding war with local butchers who were wanting the same size of pig as Arise, leading to additional costs.

It was challenging to be patient, think positively through the ups and downs, and to continue to encourage Stanley through them all. I had thought that I had adjusted to the local culture and way of doing things, but I learned that I still had a ways to go.

My biggest challenge was not knowing exactly what was happening in the field and receiving information that I needed in a timely manner for accountability and promoting the ministry. Stanley is a humble, compassionate man, with integrity, strong personal relationship skills, a passion for children and youth, and a strong desire to improve the quality of life in his village. I've worked with him for 13 years, and I admire him. But, within the last 13 months, he remarried and his family increased with the arrival of a baby girl in November. The expectations of extended family, in-laws, and elderly family members are very different from here. Being halfway around the world, and depending on limited skype calls to communicate, has added to the challenge. Reminding myself of these changes in Stanley's life, and accepting that there's much I don't know, has helped me to be patient, tactful, and encouraging with him. Being grateful for what he is doing on behalf of Arise and continuing to keep him in prayer has also helped me navigate it.
